Detector(s) used
Minelab equinox 800, Fisher F75 Ltd SE 2 & Fisher F2 with 11"DD
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I went to talk to a homeowner about a metal detecting site and noticed a old looking helmet that was being used for a door stop. I asked if I could by it and they said $15 but I only had a $10 and they said fine. I just wanted to save it from its door stop fate but when I got home and really looked it over I realized it was the early wwii version and still had the liner. It's was a McCord front seam, fixed bale with the dark green and cork chips in the paint. Msa liner and both bales intact. If it's worth more or less than $10 I'm happy because I love old war stuff! very cool :icon_thumleft: has to be worth 10 bucks for sure

I bought one when I was kid (25+ years ago) for about that price and I think they have gone up. Anything WWII is much harder to find and getting more expensive everyday.

I know a fully complete nice one would be worth the most but from what I see the early ones are going steady up in value. I seen $100 plus prices for decent shape shells missing the liner. The key is having the front seam, unbroken fixed bales and cork in the paint (not sand)!

Well that's some door stop you found there. Jeez I'm looking in the wrong places. Haha. What shape is the webbing of the liner in?

The helmet and liner are in not bad shape at all. It's just the webbing is real bad shape and the chin straps are missing. I was thinking of completing it with original pieces sometime.

I'd pay $ 10.00 for it. Nice find.
