East German Makarov

Found an orphan East German Makarov at our local gunshow today. Been on the look out for one for years to go with my Grenztruppen der DDR (East German Border Guard) uniform display. Brought the uniform back from Germany, along with a piece of the Berlin Wall and a Stars & Stripes newspaper in 1992, and some other DDR uniform stuff.

Need to get a spare magazine and pistol lanyard for it, as I don't recall if I have a lanyard packed away for it.

Typical Makarov, nothing stands out from other ones. Small import marking of CAL 9x18 and SSME PLANT CTY FL.

Serial number AT3660 dates it to 1961.

Not too worried about the holster with it, as my display uniform has one on it.

Well found two magazines for it, and got lucky on them. They were listed as Eastern European, knew they weren't Russian, so that left East German and Bulgarian. Seems they are East German, so I got lucky there, not that it mattered as a magazine is a magazine.

Just waiting on the pistol lanyard and the pistol will be 100% complete.

Since this one will be a display gun, I'm now looking for a Bulgarian one as a shooter.

Top picture showing the pistol with 3 magazines. There is a fake Makarov in the holster on the mannequin. This pistol will be displayed in front of the mannequin along with some other East German (DDR, NVA) Cold War memorabilia, in a custom built case.

Bottom picture taken outside after a thorough cleaning and oiling. It had a lot of old grease with fingerprints in it.

Well the pistol lanyard arrived today, so this pistol (MilSurp) is basically complete for display purposes.

Would like to find a box of East German ammo to display with it, but that is proving to be difficult.
