Doesn't look like silver to me... but I have its twin brother that is silver gotten from someone's dump that they missed. Date checking is the only way to be sure. :-P

First thought: either a 40% or a clad bicentennial.

Further glancing at the pic, Im assuming it is a 40% cause it all looks silver to me.

I do rim check only, but any questionable coin is always face checked.

You bite your nails too eh? :)

Lol yeah you got me. I also work in the oilfield so not a good combo for good looking hands. I'm gonna try to get a better pic than my phone.

Oh wow, I didnt catch that much copper tone in the first pic... You can definitely see it on those last 2.

I always face check if I see a rim that has alot of "silver" showing. But I have not found one that has copper toning on it, but quite a few with the pinkish tone.

Yeah, this one threw me off big time. I'm glad I could get some pics that show what I see. The first one didn't do it justice.

I would date check it possibly expecting to see 1971 again, then be quite happy when I read 196-.

I would miss that when I edge check and then catch it when I shuffle the coins through my hands before putting in the dump bag. Sound doesn't lie. Edge plus sound check is much faster than date checking.

It's a 67 BTW. I thought it was a good picture to show some of the newer people (including me) that you may want to go a little further than just an edge check. I think most everyone would have passed this one up on site alone. Thanks for looking everyone. HH

I missed a '69D yesterday edge checking but sound caught it while riffling the coins. Even after I saw what it was I couldn't pick it out of a roll of old clad. As they say, sound checking never lies.

There was a video (I can't find it now) of a roll of halves that every single one of them looked clad and they were all 40%ers... I can't find it though; it was posted awhile back. It was a cool video.

Also, I would've pulled that half out because it looked suspicious, but I face check my coins anyways so I never miss one! :)
(Also, you asking our opinion of the 4th one was a give away that it was silver!) :laughing7:

Yeah I know :) I just dumped my halves earlier so I didn't have a stack of clads to put it in lol. I've seen them with a line running down the middle but never one that actually had copper showing. Thanks for the comments.
