Hi guys thought I'd share this lovely find with you, Edward the Elder silver penny, 899-924AD found today on our permission in Hertfordshire, England, apparently there has only ever been one of these found complete in the UK and maybe I've just found the second one, so this ones gonna be declared.

It's slightly bigger than a UK penny.

Also found this Roman coin today.
Constan-tinopolis 307-337 it's a small coin the size of an old half pence UK coin.

Great saves!
I believe this describes your Roman coin:
City commemorative AE Follis. CONSTANTINOPOLIS, laureate, helmeted bust of Constantinopolis left, in imperial mantle, holding reversed spear / Victory standing facing, head left, foot on prow, wings spread, holding sceptre, resting left hand on shield. Mintmarks: dot-in-crescent PLG. RIC VII Lyons 256; Sear 16445.
Similar to this coin:

Don.......
PS: The mint mark refers to Lugdunum (Lyons, France) which closed about 423AD which might narrow the mint date of your coin.

I have no idea why you would waste the Coroners time - ITS NOT TREASURE.
It's very simple, email Martin Allen (as stated in my previous response), he will record it & give it a ref no (EMC) & he will tell you exactly how many are recorded within 2 days!

most excellent find. many of us are hoping for verification to come quickly. a banner is an understatement for a coin that rare.

Verification would take less than 2 days IF he emailed the Fitzwilliam Museum who record this period of coins on the Early Medieval Corpus (EMC);
https://emc.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/search.php
They currently have 1000 recorded coins of Edward the Elder but without Martin Allen's knowledge of which Mint & Moneyer this coin is, I am unsure as to how rare this is. If asked Martin will tell you it's the 'X' one recorded of it's type. By doing this properly & not via the PAS/Coroner the OP will have his coin recorded as the 'X' one of it's type & no-one can take that from you. (in terms of 'known recorded examples', because of course we all know only about 1 in 10 get recorded.)

Excellent you finally emailed Martin Allen.

Although there are others known, at least your claim to fame is that yours is the first to record one on the EMC & no-one can change that.

I've only had 1 coin similar but it to this day is the only 'known' one. However, I'm going off track, you should now post it in Todays Finds with the full description & explanation, as this is a BANNER find.:hello2:

These coins are why we do this.

PS. The correct description is 'EXTREMELY RARE'. (not super or very)
