Hi there.Found this artefact in a field I have not searched before. The village is steeped in history and I have found finds in the area back to the Bronze Age.The artefact was in pasture field last ploughed 20 years ago the farmer tells me.It was about 8 inches in soil.It is 2.5 cms square .It is copper alloy and nice enamel work as can be seen .There is traces of gold gilding .It appears to me to be hand made. There is no evidence of broken suspension loop . I am unsure of its age or what it was used for but hope it is of antiquity as this would be amazing for heritage of North west England. Any ideas would be welcome .Thanks for looking .

Wonderful! I have no knowledge of old artefacts, but this is one of the most interesting items I've seen! It's in excellent condition and with lots of enamel still there. One clue to its use is the fact that it's intended to be seen from both sides, as the figures on each side are different. Please let us know if you find out it's use! Andi

nice looking finds.:icon_thumleft:

Starting with the Napoleonic battle of Egypt of 1798-99 there have been several periods where Egyptian themed items were very popular. The last craze was after King Tut's tomb was discovered in the 1920's. This item could have come from any time in that range.

To me, it looks quite naive, it doesn't have the crisp percision of a true ancient egyptian artifact, but closer to a arts and craft feel. It is a lovely exciting find however and I would love to have found it just for the interest!

Agreed! Still a nice find!

Yepper, I dug something similar, was identified here as a watch fob as well.
Still a great find!
