all the knife handles that we have found have been made from a piece of rib bone
most have a wide slot made for a flaked flint blade and some have a very narrow furrow made for a metal blade

well this morning we found a handle made from a piece of elk antler
it is made to hold a faily small ovate flint or chert blade
this is a first and only antler knife handle that i know of too come from this mandan site
here it is

hey hey thank you friends....that furrow must have been difficult to cut......i am going to look through my blades and find a flint blade that fits the handle....then i will post it for your perusal

That is a really interesting find! Maybe it was used in special occasions?

Nice handle wish we had them here but I believe they have all broke down due to the soil.
