Re: another...

From my understanding these are printing plates. I would assume they date early to mid 1800's. I found one at an old house site That dated way back. But the owner of the house from 1837 to about 1860's lost one that I found in the yard. It has his name on it and looks just like what you have. I have seen people mistake these for sheet brass plates from the civil war. These plates had someones name engraved on it backwards and it was used to stamp letter head and such. Hope this helps.

Re: another...

How did they work for a stamp? It seems like they should be raised not engraved for a stamp.

Re: another...

Thanks. It appears the engraved writing style is the same as an unidentified token I found on the beach
after a hurricane in Florida.
Notice Edna Hall. treasure beach finds contrast resize.webp

I have been trying to date it and it may be 1840's. :dontknow: Thats another reason I wanted to see the rest of the name. ;D
I dont know if I have a To or a Jo. (To Ann L. Hall or Jo-Ann L. Hall)

I used a sharpie... wiped the excess off even tried to use it as a stamp... some of the black in stayed in the letters... didn't help much.

The baby powder should stay in the engraving and make your letters stand out better.

Thanks sorry to hijack. The date is 43-44 but I cant figure what century.
Judging by the engraving on your copper plate it must be the same time period.
How long were these copper plates used?

I think these copper plates were used in the 1700's as well. :dontknow:

Looks like La Roque to me.

Business card = calling card, more or less.

... and there's a reason they called that style of writing copperplate. :laughing7:

Popular from 1700's to now.
