I can date mine to the 1840's era due to the name that was on the plate. The guy who owned the property around that time frame had the very same name on my plate. He was a local judge.

you can use a smoky candle or a lighter and use the soot ti get an engraving let the soot build up and then place a paper on it and lightly rub it it will imprint on to the paper!!! it wont hurt the plate!!

Modern cursive handwriting evolved from the handwriting called business hand, round hand, English round hand, Italian hand, etc. They were a more efficient type of handwriting than the legal, ecclesiastical, etc. styles of handwriting.

A Brit named George Bickham was a engraver that produced so many books on handwriting (and made the style popular for engraving) that it was also known as copperplate.

At least one of his books is still in print, and there is a computer font called Bickham.

Thanks. It appears the engraved writing style is the same as an unidentified token I found on the beach
after a hurricane in Florida.
Notice Edna Hall.

I have been trying to date it and it may be 1840's. :dontknow: Thats another reason I wanted to see the rest of the name. ;D
I dont know if I have a To or a Jo. (To Ann L. Hall or Jo-Ann L. Hall)
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,30059.0.html

Now that is a very interesting token!
Thanks sorry to hijack. The date is 43-44 but I cant figure what century.
Judging by the engraving on your copper plate it must be the same time period.
How long were these copper plates used?

I think these copper plates were used in the 1700's as well. :dontknow:

I don't know how long that font (style of writing) was used but my plates has to be from the mid to late 1800's as far as I know there was no activity in this area before then except for the indians

But that article dates them to the late 1800's to early 1900's... hmmm
