equinox 600 question

Ive been using a cheap metal detector for 4 years or so i just got an equinox 600 so i am pretty new . when detecting in salt water do i need to ground balance and do a noise cancel??will be going from shore out to wast high water.i guess the best would be beach 2.been using it on land for a \while just want to try a salt water rive this weekend

As per the manual, there is no need to ground balance when in Beach mode unless you experience a lot of chatter. I personally do a lot of beach/water hunting with my Nox and I use Beach 2 and noise cancel. Good luck!

I don't do either, unless there's some EMI in the area. Ground balance never seems to be an issue around here.

For a beginner use the factory settings for beach 2. Exceptions: Volume to 25 and "auto" tracking. Then adjust your sensitivity up or down depending on your conditions. That would be a good starting point!

Oh yes and definitely noise cancel. If it gets too chatty, noise cancel again!!!

Why beach 2 instead of beach 1? Just curious what the difference is...what about in fresh water? Does it make a

Salt and fresh water is a difference in night and day. I do not detect in fresh water. The OP wanted settings for salt water. Beach 2 is WAY more stable in Salt Water contact.

I hunt everything in park 1, info from land To beach to land to beach, saltwater beach too

I hunt dry sand in Beach 1 and wet sand in Beach 2. I don't ground balance it and use noise cancel if it gets chatty, which only occurred one time

I went out Sat and sun did just what midalake said worked just fine no problems found gold and some coins no old coins.I like water and beach hunting much better then on land easier to dig my new scoop worked well.think Im going to get one a little wider and longer

Long time member here, trying to get back into the hobby so it's been a long time since I've posted. I run my Nox 600 in Beach2 wet/or dry. Works great in my area.
I ground balance mine on the beach, but just out of habit.

In range 1 mode, indeed it works very well too but range 2 allows a detection on much more difficult areas. There is also a frequency shift if you use the multi-frequency. In mode 1 it will be low frequencies while in mode 2 it will be high frequencies.

Said all the right things, but noise cancel often esp after changing sensitivity.

I'd also buy Andy Sabisch's book on the 600/800; great for helping adjust settings, case reports, and other great info. Read mine at least 3 times and reference often with dogears all over the place.
