There is a Baltimore City park that produced lots of Indian head cents when I hunted it with my Fisher F75.

I tried the same area today with the Equinox 600 and came away with more "hard fought" Indians.

First IHC is an 1890 IMG_6901.JPG next was a bit deeper, an 1889 IMG_6899.JPG and the last was the deepest,

from about 7 inches,

an 1884 beauty IMG_6897.JPG .

Nickels were ringing in at 12 or 13 and I ended up with five, the oldest being this 20 something Buffalo IMG_6892.JPG .

Also chasing down a nickel signal I dug this ladies Seiko dress watch IMG_6889.JPG IMG_6890.JPG IMG_6891.JPG .

Incidental findings in two holes were marbles, one more common IMG_6888.JPG and the other, what I call a "dreamsicle" marble, shown here is four views

IMG_6884.JPG IMG_6885.JPG IMG_6886.JPG IMG_6887.JPG .

Of course along the way I ended up digging scores of square nails and big iron, pull tabs, can shred and a couple bottle caps.

Thanks for checking out the post!

Nice finds McCdig. That 1884 Indian is a beauty, and it probably would have been enough to buy you a "Dreamsickle" back in the day ! Great looking marble also.

Thanks rastinirv! This area has been such a good spot I want to go back and work the trashy areas for maybe a few more "keepers".

mcmich, good point! I've completed four months now with the Equinox 600 and I can answer your questions only in part.

Mode: Park 2, multifrequency, tones = 5.

In general, square nails and other old rusted iron will go to a VDI of 39 but may switch between that and a number lower than 20. The signal will then go away if I swing 90 the other direction, with the exception of an iron nut, or, perhaps a square nail bent at right angles.

In contrast, an IHC will not ring up much above 31 and will be mixed with numbers going down to the mid-twenties. I think the same can be said for wheats. Silver, on the other hand, seems to be more consistently in the low thirties and gives a fine high-pitched tone different form that of iron.

Nickels come in at 12 and with the mid-tone you pretty much can't miss on those, although you will dig the occasional pull tab.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Vhoov! I was pretty "stoked" to find one more before leaving and when they come form that deep, good chance they're older.

Nice 3 little Indians. The 1884 is by far the best I’ve seen. Congrats

Thanks thrift76now! I think the Equinox is giving me a little edge on hearing targets that I missed before and I think that's for real.

Thanks Hawks88! The mansion lawn was place to gather and relax from the 1860s well into the 20th century. Also in the hole with the that 1884 were the mortal remains of a pocket knife. Maybe they were lost at the same time. My best Indian find here was over two years ago when, after locating at "deep" Indian I discovered something was in the plug; turned out to be a seated dime - the only seated I've dug from this area.

Thanks Dan! It's a bit of a mystery why this area is filled with so many square nails, literally four to five acres littered with these and other trash. It sits in the front of a mansion dating from 1801 but has been rebuilt and expanded since then.

Thanks Whyme! My plan for this hunt was simply to go back to a trashy area and grid it slowly. While the 1884 did not come from that particular area, the 1890 and 1889 did.
