SO the Equinox is starting to produce the goods, more regularly.. In amongst 6 musket balls and a tube of mayonaise..i pulled these out of the dirt

I believe the Equinox has shifted the hobby just like the E-Trac did when it came out.
 

I can only hope and dream to find a coin that nice someday! The mayonnaise tube freaks me out. I've been a mayo hater my whole life... glad you didn't post it. :icon_thumright: thanks for sharing! I'm curios about detecting in France. I visited Paris couple years ago and we went to visit Mont San Michel... I saw so many fields that would have been great to detect but I know you can't detect anywhere public... Oh and Versailles? I can't even imagine what would be found there! Can you describe what it's like over there!?

Hello

The French law is often misunderstood, and is a bit complex. However detecting is allowed and actually encouraged under EU regulations. So, in the forests and country areas there is no problem. The Gendarmes and police often get 'in the face' of detectors and have been known to confiscate equipment etc... in general showing that they don't know the law. So i have a laminated copy of the relevant text in my kitbag at all times. Any area which is deemed a military zone, ie. WWI WW2 battle sites are off limits , as are areas of archaeological importance. Searching on private land is by agreement with the owner, usually just a handshake and a share of finds verbal agreement suffices. Any valuable finds on public land are to be declared to the local Mairie, who then pass it to the relevant authorities, if it is deemed to have a certain value then a percentage is payed to the finder and the local commune where it was found.
So it seems fair enough to me. When i get a few pieces of worth gathered up, i will present them to the local authority for display or whatever, i feel this is the better way to go about things, keeps it safe for future generations to see, keeps me on the right side of the law and maybe a finders reward..

That's my take on it

I wouldn't be going digging up any pristine Paris parks though..

Very cool! I envy the possibility of such historical finds in Europe, however, I know the detecting laws can also be significantly stricter. Good going!
