One thing you may want to look for out those directions or perhaps thru the hoyo is a tree triangle, and it indicates that from the 3 small trees standing this side of the hoyo. From the age of those 3 trees, you can also tell about how recently someone has been there taking care of the alignments on the site. There are very old markers at all of these sites, but often some very recent "doings" by people that know about most of them.

What an eye! I have been looking & looking at that photo and wondering what I'm suppose to be seeing? Some parts of it seem alien, in shape, color, the way it was covered up, etc. I never clearly saw the fact that the trees were upside down. Your posts hit me like a hammer. They contain a lot of information. Thank you!

Re bonuntr

Just a hunch, but I would be looking up the hill from this monument, (pointer underneath), and under rocks for an entrance. Just a guess, but that's what I have read from it. I believe you are close.

You know some times a fella just can't see the forest for the trees. I am so sorry! I thought you had double posted. So as many times as I have looked over the posts here I never completely read through your 2nd post. Please forgive me!
Yes! I do think we are close to something. Don't know what or where, but the area just has that feeling. I have only gone out there a couple of times. One of my problems is I keep getting distracted as you can see from the other pictures. I never made it back to the original posted site. I owe other folks some observations of temps and compass readings of the site as well. Hope they have not given up on me. Thank you for your post. mm

Minute2, that pointer could pass for a Royal Trail Its certainly wedged in for a reason, My opinion is that the direction IS important it seems that trail is measured in 33 pace and a royal trail seems to be a 66 inch pace, The distance between markers on a Royal Trail could very well 2.5 miles, seem that they wanted that marker to stay in place any movement would really make a difference

View attachment 1327648 A friend and I located this in the woods on his property about 3 or 4 years ago. We do not know what it is or was. I can tell you it is old and looks to be man made. Notice the color of the rocks the one on top matches the area around it, while the rocks below it are not weathered as much. The "Table" top rock is not stable to walk on "I tried." Also there are 4 to 5 small rocks "like the two seen in the gap supporting the flat rock above like table legs. The void in between is large enough for saddle bags or something about that size. the arrow rock helps support the top rock as well. As far as location all I will say is it is in Northwest Arkansas. Above this area is a small bluff. I found nothing on this bluff. There is easy passage around the bluff a short distance either direction from the arrow, so I doubt it is a marker for a path. Water is everywhere in the area so I count this out as well. I think it is an old outlaw cache site, but I don't know that for sure. Also where did the rock go that was removed from in front? All the rock scattered in the area seems to be weathered like the others seen in the picture. I found another arrow rock laying flat on the ground about a 1/4 mile or less form this site. It points in the general direction toward this location, but the style is totally different than the arrow in the picture. I did not have a way to get a picture of it the day I found it, and a dozer was in that area about a month ago. I hope it is still there but with all the ticks and chiggers its not real high on my list. Well if you would please look this over and let me know what you think. Thank you all!

This looks very familiar. I've seen something similar out towards the lake

dsty, Are you referring to my first post? The Arrow Rock under the cover rock? 2.5 miles whoa! I have put this marker on the back burner for now because I'm finding other stuff not too far away, and because I'm not sure if it is relative to what I'm finding. I did not want to chase too many rabbits at once. Kind of feeling my way through and learn as I go. I want to ask do you think it might be something else like maybe a vent to a mine? Why would they hold that rock up in the air like that? If it is a royal trail they use letters and numbers correct? Update: By the way the last time I was at the Arrow Rock the smaller rocks had crumbled and the Arrow was supporting a lot more of the weight. I took a compass to get a reading but could not see what it said and it did not turn out in the picture either. So I'll have to redo that next time. Thank you for your reply

civil_war22 That is very interesting. I have no idea what they are or were using this for. dsty may be right that it is a pointer for a trail. But it just jups out at you if you are in the right position to see it. You need to check yours out and post some pictures of it. This one had space under to fit a small package of some kind if you wanted to. That's why I thought it was a drop site for someone? I have not found any marks or signs on this one so far. Thanks for your reply I'll watch for your picture(s) mm

It's working!! I'll be. Yes I have been told there has been some of that in the area, but this tree is old and no longer living. Don't know? To answer your other question, it is about 3/4's of the way down the hill. I thought it lined up to a spot up the hill but it is off a fair amount. This is another one of those things you see but don't see until one day... Where did that come from? I have never seen anything like this, but we do have a lot of trees that have been twisted by tornados. Most of those its at the top or in case of the whole tree it is rarely more than a full turn top to bottom. Thanks for posting the heart as a negative. Thank you! mm

Awesome! I like history like that. There is so much in this part of the country that is being wasted and forgotten. I do not know your age, but I'm telling you if you can, record any of these bits of history from folks, stories, to pictures, tales and lore, whatever else comes your way. I just post in one of my replies that the two small rocks that were supporting the flat rock on the top had crumbled. Now history is changed, it can not be put back, it will never be the same. We are loosing the connection to our past, like Stretch Armstrong, the real stuff inside the USA.
Definitely would like to see your pictures! Write some kind of description with your pictures. Nothing like having a box full of pictures and no one has a clue of who/what or where! Did not mean to preach! Thank you. mm

Minuteman2 I'll sure do that. I wish I would have wrote everything my great grandma told me. My dad was young when he died but a wealth of knowledge about civil war campsites and places to find Indian artifacts. The place on my grandma's actually has a little hiding spot too. It's awesome looking. I'll have to wait till the briar and ticks die down to get out there. I will be going right by it during deer season anyways

be cautious

It seems a good place for snakes, be cautious!!
An attempt to mine? maybe, arrow stone can be spaniard
look for dump stones (pile) to see what extracted

Saw my first snake the other day, just a baby, but a reminder where there is one there are others! Did raise the hair on my neck because I did not spot it until I was right beside it. My list for least desirables is growing... Chiggers, Ticks, Snakes,...I took a picture for a reminder and kept going. He or she will be out there next time I go. Thanks be safe! mm

Cool! Just a comment: I'm learning that there is so much we don't see until we study what is in the pictures.
Thank you! mm

Hello MM2, Most everything that will bite you has a base of protein in its bite and white vinegar will cause it to neutralize and takes the sting out. I feel bad about not helping folks but I only get 1 1/2 hour per day at the Library and it was taking a lot of my time answering questions that had already been answered 2/3/4 times, Sorry

One of those Bad Boys would sure mess up your day! I still don't know if I would kill it or not. I kind of live by the motto "Don't mess with me I don't mess with you" After that all bets are off! I am happy it was him and not you though. Some people like them for hat bands and such...I'll pass! mm
