Hello All, Thinking of buying a Excal II soon, but was wondering about its portability when traveling? Does it break down OK for a suitcase. Me and my wife travel a few times a year to Mexico, Bermuda. Etc... Anyobe travel with their Excal that can weigh in on this??? Thanks Ahead of time. I know you guys will come thru. 😃

Depends on the size of your suitcase and whether you keep it stock or choose a Plugger or Anderson 3 piece stock. Note that you don't want to put any stress on the cables since the coil and control unit + power supply are permanently connected.

The Excal is nose heavy, that type of detector gets me in the elbow. So, I switched to a Plugger straight shaft, putting the controls behind my elbow - balances it. I can swing all day with that straight shaft.

The unit breaks down just fine for a suitcase. As mentioned, it's the shafts that are the limiting factor. If you can, get a carbon fiber travel set from Plugger. Nice and light and short shaft lengths. I don't, but, I've heard some people have taken them as carry-on.
