Hi Lowtones
Very strange to read your mail. Over here in England it is going to be illegal to sell nicad cells after October this year, something with them containing heavy metals, so nimh will be the way manufacturers will have to go. With this in mind and my pack on the Excalibur not holding its charge quite as well as it did, I sent a e-mail to Finbarr Lordan over at Minelab Ireland at lunchtime today asking if they were going to market a nimh pack; as yet no reply. Looking at the specifications on these cells they appear to be slightly larger diameter so possibly will not fit the waterproof housing, but more importantly will need a different charger, so all in all I am not surprised that a makeover is in progress. Good thing with nimh is that they have no memory retention.
Mine has had a lot of use this year and has been to Tunisia, Croatia, Spain and Poland not forgetting some local beaches and has never missed a beat in 3 years of use, many items of jewellery found and last week in Spain I returned a 5 day old lost wedding ring to a honeymoon couple staying at my hotel, they were choked and in tears and insisted I have £20 reward, it took about an hour and a half in waist deep water to find it and was exactly as they described it. Made my day too.
I will look forward to the new updated version and will definately purchase one and have the old one as backup, even took it land detecting at weekend and found some Mediaeval bits (1500-1600) if I hear anything about the new Excal over here I will send a mail on this forum.
Good luck to all
Rob
