Do you silicone grease the rubber seal?

I heard/ read that somewhere else. I can't remember the outcome but I think they said it was a flurry or something like that. Good Luck!

Max, I heard about this too and all I can think of is water under the seal or plug. However once you are shallower it stops. so it can't be water unless it is a change of temp contracting a connection. Have you tried changing pods?

I have ahd issues with the excal not working properly when fully submerged. Cant explain it well, being the newbie that I am tho :(

Check the wire going into the battery. I had a very small cut in it i could hardly see it . I had it changed and now it works fine.

Max's....you should see some discoloration on the battery terminals if water is getting between your battery gasket... I always try to clean and grease the gasket after charging .....At times when i first submerse my Xcal it will false for 15 to 20 min. I just turn down sensitivity toward 3 O clock to minimize falsing.....until the Xcal will let me increase the sensitivity back to normal...I don't know why...but I'm beginning to think it might have something to do with temperature difference......rdi

The second or third time I submerged the controls on my excal, I had some serious problems. The threshold flew 5 times louder than it had been, and it falsed uncontrolably in every sens setting for about 20-30 mins after I took it out of the water. I had contacted Minelab, and was very close to having a replacement sent to me. I tested the unit today, to be sure the issue remained. Guess what? I dunked it, and nothing changed. I am stunned. Took it out on a second hunt to make sure I wasnt going nuts. Now it works perfectly. I canceled the replacement model, and hope it continues to see improvement.

The only things I can think of that I changed would be that I used some velcro to secure the wire to the lower shaft after it comes out of the coil, and, I think I may have been overtightening the battery connecter. I hip mount the controls, and have found no real good way to secur the wire, so I kinda had it jerry rigged, and it ran loosely from the coil to the top of the shaft over the arm holder. Seems maybe the wire waving in the water caused some issues, as I have seen others mention. I just hope these things fix the issue. I love getting dunked, and would hate to have to send it in for a month. Especially since I have no backup detector.

I haven't seen this problem yet on mine, I turn my threshold down to a point it will go silent, then I back it up just so the threshold comes in.

Same here.......................Cotton :tongue3:

That's what I do too. I have noticed that if I have the volume up too high it sometimes starts to false also. I just turn the volume down a little bit, readjust the threshold and start again. When mine is completly submerged it works the best, it is so quiet until it hits a target.....love it.
