need advice please:

the signal to the headphones is cutting out and when I push the wire where it attaches into the unit it comes back on. Assuming there is a short near to end, can the wire be cut back an reattached ? There are 2 allen screws holding the back plate on, but is the plastic also glued ? I don't want to completely ruin the unit in an attempt to repair it. I am leaving in one week for the Bahamas and was hoping to do some serious detecting. Sending it to the factory will take to long, especially with new year's coming up. Kellyco charges $45.00 a day to rent one, so a week rental is an expensive option.
Any thoughts ?

If it is still under warranty any repairs not done by Minelab will void the warranty. With your predicament you may have to bite the bullet and rent one, or buy a back up detector if you are set on using one on vacation.

I live in Cocoa. I have an Excal 1000 you can use for your trip if you want. I can use my Etrack for a bit.

I had this same thing happen to mine but it was out of warranty. I just resoldered it and sealed it back with 5200 sealer. It's been working great ever sense.

Re: excalibur 1000, bad cord on phones, fixed now

Thank you all for the advice. Mitch, thanks for speaking to me today. Dale, really nice of you to offer the loaner ! I cut back and re-soldered the wires. It's louder now than it was before. The short was just after the strain relief. Have to wonder how many targets were missed due to the poor connection. I am looking for replacement phones now as the patch job may not hold forever. Saw a used set on E-bay. Getting a back up detector is looking more like a necessity than a nice to have.

Many thanks ,

Doug
