Minelab Excalibur , Explorer 2 ,Soverign elite,
I sent my Excalibur in to get the headphones repaired. I was told it is about a week turn around so if anybody was thinking about sending their unit in i would do it now. I took my explorer out and hit the wet sand and found 2 earrings . Pickings are getting slow around here i am now hoping for some good storms so some of my late 1800,s beaches can start producing.

Sorry you had to send the Excal in for a repair. At least when Minelab fixes something, it is sure to be fixed, unlike another I won't name.

I wish that was 100% true,I had to send in my meter on the Elite an got it back 3 weeks later, an it still didn't work, so I sent it in again an 2 weeks later got it back an it lasted about 2 weeks, the 3rd time they sent me a new meter an it lasted about 3 weeks, the 4th time they sent me a shipping lable,( I had already spent almost 25$ in shipping) an 4 weeks later got it back an so far so good. This was way back in may of 2007.the first meter was a 550 scale an it lasted for 1 1/2years, I now have the 180 meter.they no longer make the 550

Sorry, about your headset lowtones. The only problem i,ve had with my excal.,is the plastic screw on my battery pack chipped bad. I,m careful with my stuff. I know I didn,t drop it. I had to send it in for repair. Now I,ve noticed that my backup battery pack plastic is also chipped. What the. Has anyone else had this problem? >:( Mike

I'm in the same boat as you lowtones, my Excalibur is currently at Minelab for a Gray Ghost install. I've been using my backup PI Pro which I only used a couple of times before, bobby pins are now my friends.:)

Sorry to hear the Excal is out of commission, it was that same reason that caused me to pick up another Excal used as my backup. I thought about putting a WOT on it but havn't done it yet.

Mike, I have 3 batterys haven't seen that problem yet, a friend of mine had a crack on his AA pack, he used the same resin that we use to coat the the coils to fix, but crack was on the side not the top.

Hey, when you use a unit a lot especially in the water, the machine takes a toll from the elements. :( In 2005, My Excalibur started acting eratically and wouldn't pick up a dime on the surface. Sent it in and the tech called me up and the Tech told me that the components in my unit were 15 years old and couldn't be repaired so they gave me at cost which was several hundred dollars less if bought in a store for all new unit: coil, components and headphones. :D The only thing original on my Excalibur is the handle and rod assembly which I hadn't sent in. They even sent back the old coil and headphones and battery housing. The old battery housing had a square fitting to fit the old case. I took a hacksaw to it and cut it so it'd fit my diamond pattern and converted it to Alkaline for a battery backup. ;)
Did you know you can buy a new rechargeable power pack on eBay for $45.00. That's a lot cheaper than buying one from a dealer. ;D
