My older Excalibur 800 has quit. I'd like to get it repaired and adjusted, AND turn it into an Excalibur 1500 with a WOT coil at the same time. I'm in Florida..treasure coast.

I'd welcome suggestions and recommendations. I don't have a problem with factory service, but I understand they don't deal with aftermarket items.

I've also reconfigured my unit by mounting the various components at different places on the shaft, and have a non-factory battery (which IS fully charged).

Thanks for your assistance.

Bill, Treasure Hunter has done many of these coil additions and could walk you through it. I think he has posted photo's here. If you were a Charter Member you could do a search.

I know someone who will hardwire it inside your Excal for you so there are no splices. Is your Excal out of warranty as the mod will void any remaining warranty it has?

If your interested let me know and I will send you his contact info, you supply the WOT, pay for shipping and the cost of the mod.....I think he charges $50-$75 for the work.....

It's LONG out of warranty. It also needs something repaired, possibly one of the variable resistors (knobs). I get no tone. Happened before, and exercising the adjustments cured it. Minelab won't service older units now anyhow, it appears.

If I can't find an independent repair shop/person, I guess my next step is to delve into it myself. In any case, gotta get it working before I consider the coil upgrade.

I'm not real enthused about buying a new unit..the new ones don't seem to be improved in any substantial manner.

Again, thanks.
