Excellent start to 2013!

Went back to the beach, the site of a shipwreck. Found one copper half cent or farthing, farthing I believe. It is heavily corroded. Also got 3 pieces of small copper ship plating and two 18th century hand forged brass/copper nails, used to hold the sheathing on the ships. Also got a Modern (?) earring. Not bad for 4 hours.

It is definately a farthing. I'll have to let it soak to get the salt crud off. The ship's manifest did not inclue farthings, so this (sadly) must have belonged to one of the passengers who died in the wreck. Nails are also as dug. The smaller one is the better image, as you can see how it was handmade. Do you think the open metal band is an earring? I can't find my hand lens and don't know what it's made of, not iron, not brass. it did tarnish black, but the black isn't stuck on too well.
