Dad & I spent 4 hours finishing off the failed Bean area and doing a little more on the Saxon Gaming Piece Field.

We could not believe our luck!

Broken Clay Wig Curler - 18th C
3 Scrappies (not pictured)
Livery Button
GNR Button
Herefordshire Militia Button (early 19th C, I think)8-)
2 Tudor Button - 1 scarce oblong type
WWI Shoulder Badges
2 Tudor Clothes Fasteners
Nice 14th C Buckle
Iron Ball (small canister shot?)
1915 Three Pence
Hammered Farthing (ID?)

Although I got the 2 silver, Dad got the find of the day;
Italian Medieval Lead Papal Bulla
These were used to seal documents from the Pope, we have never had one (Shaun7 pinched one once from our field:laughing7: ), I still need to ID the Pope.
I will research later after the pub.:occasion14:

ID:
Pope Clement V
AD 1305-1315
S PA & S PE means St Paul & St Peter
CLE/MENS/PPV

The 3 pence and buttons stand out...beautiful. and the last couple at the bottom the faces blow me away...fantastic finds..

Outstanding find, congrats! :notworthy:

Great find for Crudad
Congrats to Him

BUMP. (sorry old post!)

When I posted this many years ago I never mentioned the amazing connection that this Papal Bulla had to the Knights Templar. One could dream that this seal to an important document, had information condemning the Knights Templar. Unlikely I know but what a great connection to the beginning of the end of the Knights Templar Order.

Even his wiki page has a Bulla on it!
I saw that it was older but what a great post!

Yeah, I got one...didn’t have a clue what it was though. I still have it right next to me 😂

Yours is in nicer condition though. I forget which Pope it was?

...and it amazes me how the hammered coins stay intact...they look thin and pliable...at least these hammered remained in decent condition....

FAN BULLA TASTIC!

Wow, very nice!! I would absolutely love to detect in the UK, on my list for sure. Well done sir

Cool finds for sure ! I had never heard of a Papal Bulla, and am amazed at how small the hammered is. But to be honest, what I was most amazed and jealous of, was that you were hitting the pub after the hunt. It wasn't until I read further that it was an older post, that I realized how you were able to visit your local and get a headacre, aahhh... how I long for those days already. Cheers!
