Failed Bean Crop Area - Day 5 - Papal Bulla!!!

Dad & I spent 4 hours finishing off the failed Bean area and doing a little more on the Saxon Gaming Piece Field.

We could not believe our luck!

2 Tudor Button - 1 scarce oblong type
WWI Shoulder Badges
2 Tudor Clothes Fasteners
Nice 14th C Buckle
Iron Ball (small canister shot?)
1915 Three Pence
Hammered Farthing (ID?)

Although I got the 2 silver, Dad got the find of the day;
Italian Medieval Lead Papal Bulla
These were used to seal documents from the Pope, we have never had one (Shaun7 pinched one once from our field :laughing7:

), I still need to ID the Pope.
I will research later after the pub. :occasion14:

Yes, he does have a habit of not finding much & then studdenly smashing it out the ball park.

Maybe if I found it, but the rules are clear on non-members & banner. That matters little to me, as we now have another find I thought we never would & in the most unlikely place.

Great Finds. I remember reading about Papal Bulla finds in preparation for a trip to Colchester. That's a terrific recovery by your Dad.

We (Dad) could have missed it, as it's a field we don't like that much & we are only doing a small area of it where the Beans have failed. So we had no choice 'where' to search on the field. This last little bit was the opposite side of where we have mapped stuff in the past & an area we had previously found nothing. Lastly we went right into a 'cove' of failed crop, which we could have easily left out, as being to small & differicult to get around the existing Beans. All in all pretty lucky.

BUMP. (sorry old post!)

When I posted this many years ago I never mentioned the amazing connection that this Papal Bulla had to the Knights Templar. One could dream that this seal to an important document, had information condemning the Knights Templar. Unlikely I know but what a great connection to the beginning of the end of the Knights Templar Order.
