You worked it for a few hours and came home with a button you needed , and two silvers - Cheers ! I'd love to see the face of your pubtender (bartender? ) if you were to slap a hammered down when he serves up a pint !

Looks like a fine way to spend 4.5 hours to me.

Well done Cru! Tell me why so many seed failed? I never have these luck here...

Nor do we, this has been the worst year I have known. It's because the ground was too wet when they drilled the seed. Many farmers lost the whole lot & re-drilled a spring crop.

a English hammered always a good day of hunting.....also a nice thimble! :icon_thumleft:

Yup, any day you pluck a silver hammered out of the ground is a good day in my books. Well done.

Nice hammered Cru. Are you going to try and straighten it? And you've been finding those "scrappies" just about every hunt lately. Are they that common, or is it mostly a result of putting yourself on the right sites? I think I already know the answer.

As its a common type of hammered, I just chucked it in the pile with the other non-album coins.

This field is within the Roman Towns boundries; in terms of being within the farmed complex. These outer fields may have just had animals on it, I think its too heavy for crops. The scrappies we find here seem to follow the high ground on a lump which we take to be a Roman trackway.
They only look common because we tend to target ancient sites.

BUTTON UPDATE:

IDed by an expert:

'Its actually 'CM GDS' and relates to a first pattern Coldstream Guards issue. This would date c1780-1800 and was identical to the officers issue with the exception that the other ranks issue was in pewter.'

Nice finds as usual!

Nice going on the thimble and hammered, the lead wheel looking find is interesting. Do you ever get any of the silver straightened?

Case by case basis. Some will straighten without heating, which I do quite often. This one would need super heating in hot oil, but wasn't worth the effort.

Amazing finds! Congratulations.
