I posted not to long ago that I was frustrated and not far from where I found my 1753 colonial rex I dug a hole with my dad last night on instinct. I like to abandon the metal detector at times and just kind of go where the shovel takes me. We found a silver camel lighter and a big rock. We left the hole open and today before I filled it in, something told me to dig a little more and I'm glad I did. Next to the big rock was a cool looking button with what appears to be blood on it. Here are the pics, please help me identify it. Also I have a hunch there is something more under the big flat stone. button.jpegbutton 2.jpeg

So by chance, you just took your shovel, without the aid of a metal detector and dug that up? What method did you use to clean it?

All I did was run some warm water over it to clean off the surface dirt. It is now in a ziploc bag to protect it from wear. Also button might not be the best term for it, it is very heavy and bigger then a silver dollar.

"ABANDON THE DETECTOR"????? Are you like....a human metal detector? Like.....you can see stuff in the ground? Or feel where it is?? Inquiring minds would like to know. (and so would I)

Now that's the way to hunt! I hiked 4 miles in and 4 miles out this morning with all my gear to get to a site. Would be so much easier to leave the detector at home and just walk around with a shovel until a voice in my head told me where to dig. Interesting find, what ever it is. Maybe a saddle or harness decoration ??? I would hazard a guess and say the stain is likely something other than blood.

Heck, wish I had that ability. Woulda saved me $949.00!

I know a lot are poking fun at ya. Don't take it the wrong way. I've been hunting relics since 1975 and never have been able to just go out and start dig up relics without a detector are a probe. Nice find relic whisper......

Can you post a clearer picture of the front. Its a little blurry.

I'll post a better front pic soon. I don't know how I find stuff on instinct sometimes I get frustrated not finding anything with the metal detector so I look for a good spot to dig and sometimes I get lucky.

I agree, it looks to be a post-1900 horse decoration.

I was just talking to my Wife the other night and told her that I wish I could see things in the ground,I'd be RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I were you......I'd look "instinctively" at picking 6 numbers on POWERBALL for Wed.:laughing7:

I've been told it might be a clasped button that went on a cape. The front as far as I can tell is brass and the back is cast iron. It might have been a horse decoration but it is highly decorated and has a nice luster to it and I'm not sure I agree with your aging. I personally think it would make one blinged out necklace, lol. I'll try to get that sharper image of the front up soon so you can see the detail better. I'm set to do a little more digging later, wish me luck.
