Fan's Roman Site...

I can't say this is the first hunt of the year because Cru'dad did a sneaky 1.5 hour hunt in a field near his home. It was in amongst an area of failed oil-seed rape. He only had the Medieval strap-end pictured.
Today after a week of gale force winds & lots of rain we did an ankle breaker for 4 hours. I had to cut it short as it was jarring my knee to much. However, we did twice as well as we expected at this site. Its named after Land-Mags dog who discovered it. Its the living settlement attached to our Roman Metal Working Site.

24 Roman Coins (3 good ones)
Broken 1st C AD Roman Fibula (Brooch)
Lots of Roman Pot Shards
Medieval Strap-end (Found yesterday)

A very solid start to the year.

Strong showing of finds for the start of the season, liking the three crisp ones for sure.

First time I ever heard of term I did a double take. " The field is planted in rape but it's ok to detect on" Then somebody gave me the NA translation of Canola.

Yes, we just call them 'rape fields', but it caused such a stir on here I started adding the word oilseed.

Hey, what's that thing all the way to the right in your 2nd picture? I found one of those too, at an old 1670's farmhouse:



It's slightly concave, with a squared off hole.

Never a dull moment from Cru and company. Three really nice detailed beauties for old romans. Your bits and pieces being saved are way cool too. Painting a picture of an awesome past.

Tinny, Been drinking in the afternoon again?

Rapeseed wasn't introduced into Britain until the 14th C, which if you not familiar with your home Country history is 1000 years after the Romans left.
