Fan's Roman Sub-Site - GAME OVER...

We did what we thought was a high risk strategy move away from where Cru'Dad had the Gold Coin yesterday. We wanted to grid an area we had never done, it was between Fan's Roman Site & what we believe to be an ancient trackway. It was at least 400 metres from the main spread of Roman Coins but it needed doing & we thought we would get the odd coin & artefact...lol
When we arrived in the morning we saw all the tractors out in the next field & we knew ours would be next. The race was on, but we were far enough away from their starting point to get in 6 hours gridding before they drilled the seed. So this was our last hunt this year.:sadsmiley:
We were shocked to find our 3rd new Roman Site of the year - now called ''Fan's Roman Sub-Site''.

We not only broken our best 1 day total for the year but we got the most Roman 'Largies' in 1 outing!

50 Bronze Roman Coins
8 Roman Brooches - 2 Really good ones, 1 with pin.
1st C AD Childs Roman Ring
Roman Hair Pin
Mystery Bronze Strap Guide??
Jetton
3 Medieval Buckles
1844 Shilling - Better than my 1 in my collection & Dads first Vicky Shilling.

UPDATE:
From a British Museum Expert:
There are only about a dozen BRI coins in my corpus and I would love to add yours. A good image is really important to enable die comparison.

If you could ask the landowner if we could put this coin on the database, that would be excellent. It is really important

A beautiful Victoria Shilling you have found there.

Yeap, I've been a date collector since a kid, partly so I could afford it, & this has loads less wear than mine.

Lot of activity there! Congrats on the new site! Now waiting starts till harvest....

UNREAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Congratulations on the hunt, now it'll give you something to dream about.

Man, nice finds. All of my relatives are in Neyland, Wales and Bakewell, Derbyshire. I need to take a trip.

Anyone of us would love to find that shilling…but how new it looks compared to most of your finds…a good day in my books!

Can't wait to see those Roman coins, quite a clean up

Updated with the coins at top. Lots of different Emperors covered including a very rare type & Nero who we hardly ever get.

Just because its modern doesn't mean we don't love to find it. Its Dads first & straight in my collection as the best of its date.

Dads thought on some of the coins including the very rare (BRI) one:

Claudius ones were re-issued under Titus & Domitian hence why smaller and lighter than original. Also surprised by the Carausius BRI (London mint) which was issued as one of his first coinage when he came to power but was quickly dropped and changed to the more normal Numeral or ML etc types.

Forgot to reply. I think you would stand a good chance around Bakewell & its a beautiful area!

What a fantastic haul of finds! BUT the hardest thing is to FIND the sites. Much easier to hunt them, and now you know where it is! There are a couple of really beautiful coins. I love the Roman child's ring and brooches. There will be something amazing in that field for you!

Congrats,

Buck
