I just found my first Civil War Federal Sword plate! This 1851 model buckle was worn by Union Officers on a sword belt! I had no idea I would find such a cool relic when I set out to find property corners in northern Caswell County, Pelham township! I finished finding my stobs and decided to dig around the old chimney on the property and this turns up! There were only about 30 minutes of light, so I was only able to dig 14 targets....the plate was the last! I don't get to dig much anymore so this is AWESOME! I can't wait to research the old cabin site further! I own it, so it is not going anywhere!

I have a video, it is on my facebook page, "Bradley Thomas Dixon" I could not load it here.

The plate is beyond cool!!! The project is cool too.. Remember there is probably a trash pit there too and privy.

Awesome find! Congratulations!

Mr. Dixon, Mayan', (that's the way the word man is pronounced here in Georgia) on the Sword Belt Plate. As said, that is a Great beginning to the new year. Very nice relic indeed. It makes one wonder if this was brought home by a Confetrit' soldier after the war as a souvenir, or if it was worn by a Union Loyalist from N.C. It's fun to just sit and wonder about some of these pieces and how they came about being found where they were. This piece will be a great addition to your collection. Keep at this area. There is bound to be more stuff from where this was found. Best of Luck to you sir and Continued Success to you.

Wow! Beautiful plate! You must have been dancing when you saw that.
