I got out to a site after work today. My research pointed me to the exact area, but once I arrived there was no sign of a home...none.

I bounced around for an hour doing a sector searches, which ended up bringing me in an unexpected direction. Long story short, I think I found the site, but only had a 1/2 hour to search the area before I had to leave...but I have a few goodies to show.

I found a great watch winder. I was divided between a barrel tap key and a winder, but it was just too small to be a tap key.

Some buttons including an interesting iron/brass type.

I found a great example of a Ferdinand 1/2 reale. I've never found a Ferdinand VII before, so it was great adding this to the collection. It is my latest Spanish silver and a silver "gap filler". Now my silver gap only spans 21 yeas (1800 - 1821). In addition it's also the last year of Spanish currency from Mexico City. If you want a good read, the war of Mexican independence is a good one.

The tarnish is the type lemon juice can't remove, so I went to work with the baking soda technique. I think it came out great.

Last weekend I had a great hunt with a great group of friends. I missed most of Saturday, but Sunday I took the fellas to NJ. But before all that we had an excellent EastCoastHunter BBQ

Here are my finds from then....

And a lead button. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1492825252.114877.webp

Also found a silver bracelet that has the initials of my detecting posse - Basstards Of Bramble. Or it could just be from a guy named Bob.

Enjoy, and good hunts everyone. Work your arse off and it'll pay off.

Best always

Steve

Funny how it works... I know of plenty of Spanish dug in my area, but never an 1800s Spanish.

Although the books say a ton of these coins were made, I can't speak of a single area that these late Spanish coins are prevalent. I remember a year or two ago someone posted an 18-teens Ferdinand real, and I commented that they're not often seen. I tried to search for examples and I couldn't find much. I'm not saying these are rare, but they're rarely dug in any given area.

Killer half real Steve-not to mention the KGIII and large cent. You are a relic magnet!

Thanks for the look Glen! I was going. On a hike with my family early in the day and thought of your recent post...needless to say I was looking for teeth I the creeks. My wife didn't approve....lol

Your the man Steve great finds!

Great finds Steve, you always manage to put on quite a show!

Great looking real. You're still tapped into the good stuff!

Very few buttons I've even seen had an iron applied face, and they weren't from that period, nor looked anything like that one. I think something probably rusted over top of it. You should take some needle nose pliers and slowly pinch away the rust.

Just an update: A little chipping away and something unexpected emerged, so I switched to Naval jelly to remove the rust. Wow

I've not seen a button quite like this one.

Those that do the work find the goodies. You just proved that. Amazing for a half hour of hunting. BTW, would love to see a good front and back photo of the KG. Always hoping someone is pulling a Machin's Mills piece. Nice going!

Nice group of finds Steve

Haha, everyone loves the Spanish! I'm surprised that, considering Spanish silver dominated world markets for hundreds of years, more didn't make it over your way. Strange.

Cheers

I don't know why we are short on Spanish here, just a matter of fact. I have a few very worn silvers supposed to be Spanish, one fairly nice Ferdinand and Isabella 1474-1504 Silver and SEEN a Ferdinand and Isabella Gold coming off the ground. Thats it. I may never stumble over a Cob, one of my wishlist items for sure. Congrats again!

Thanks Kevin's brother in law's brother in law. A few bits were caught along the way, but all the keepers came from that one area. Cheers bud

Haha, it seems that way but man, the work leading up to a good hunt is what people don't see;) Re the KG - The other side is blanked. I'll see if I can get a good angle on it.

Well never say never. My "may never" is an English hammered silver, yours is a cob. But they're out there. I often say one of Crusaders blurbs: PDA - Positive Detecting Attitude. Now you may have used up your detecting mojo with that WHORD you found, but next year I bet you'll find some Spanish;)

I said "i may never..."! So i agree, Never is a word not known in the detecting world. :tongue3:
The hoarde was the perfect finish of a great winter season. If i used up my detecting mojo i hope it was for the season and not for the year!

Nice find, hard work always pays off.
