It's been a minute since I posted. I haven't done much hunting for artifacts lately. Busy! I do have a few run of the mill pieces that are pretty interesting. Nothing special, but something.

A couple of preforms. One was started using the poorest lithic I have ever seen.

Small scraper made of that poor grade quartz

And... What I think is a game stone. I can't be totally sure, however.

Those are the real deal. Do you know where those were found Gator? I find crystals literally every hunt.

Thanks Americus! I'm not really sure that this is a game stone. I think it is, but not sure. I believe it is made of limestone and its not perfectly round.

Is that first one a Yadkin? Big feller!
Love the quartz peices!

Nice finds NC I been to busy myself

Flake, the first piece is an oddity. It appears to be a simple spokeshave. It's a uniface piece with lots of work on one side. May be a preform or a salvaged attempt at a Yadkin. I like finding oddities.

Nice finds N.C.,
I'd go with gaming stone, looks pretty round to me, ever find marbles around there? Looks 3/4" or bigger?
Great pics. and nice stuff. Thanks....

Nice game stone. If it was perfect in the round shape I would say historic marble. Most old NA game stones wont be perfect in shape.

Bci101, I have found 3 game stones on our family farm. 3 is counting this one. I can't recall ever finding an actual marble there, but I know my Dad and uncles had marbles as kids. They spent their summers on the farm. If you are talking about the old salt glazed marbles, no. I haven't found but one of those in my life.

Found it in a spot that has lots of displaced dirt. These guys that do earth moving work put piles of dirt there. Here are my other game stones.

The one in the center was found in SC. Along with some pottery.

Just want to mention that most families who didn't have much money made clay marbles for their kids since the hand painted salt glazed ones were not cheap.
This one came from a late 1800s home site.
The ones in your photo look like kaolin clay.that's a European import.

That looks like the stuff my find is made of. Tell me, does clay absorb or shed water? Mine sheds water. I really think its limestone. If not limestone, clay for sure. It's just the wrong color for clay on my farm. The farm is literally red clay. I'll send you a pic of the land.

Its just like pottery..with clay and temper.
It definitely absorbs water if not glazed. If glazed it wont. Not all were painted.
If it's not local clay I doubt it's Native made.. unless its stone which I don't think it is.
Just look up clay marble..you'll see plenty of examples ..and... read about them a bit.

Clay marbles.

That comment about telling the difference by how perfectly round it is was quite funny.
