Yesterdays finds.
We finished, just in time, about 90% of the scatter, & all of the main area. Sadly the field stuck to its track record of not producing a Silver Roman coin in the usual ratio. This field is closer to 120/1 (Correction 91/1) instead of about 60/1. Not complaining, I just wished for 1!
5.5 hours today;

28 Roman Bronze Coins - Reflects us moving out of the main area.
2 Tudor Buttons
Neolithic Flint
Roman Key Handle
Roman Ring Bezel
Roman Locking Pin Mechanism
Bits...

Over 100 coins in 2 days even without silver all helps the yearly totals.:thumbsup:

UPDATE (From Cru'dad states the stats on the field);

''Some may wonder about why a poorer silver ratio for this site – the answer is that the site was most heavily used in the Constantine family era when very few silvers circulated. So you get a lot of AD310 to 340 coinage where in UK you get virtually no silvers.

We have found from the earlier occupation period of AD50-225 (8 denarii) and later C4th onwards AD364-400 (5 Siliqua) - periods where you get the more normal ratio of silver to bronze - while in Antoninianus period AD245-295 (only 2 silver) .

We have no silvers found for period AD 295-350 which is the norm. So in total to date (starting 2009) we have found 15 silver coins versus 1364 bronze on this site – a ratio of 1:91 (although over last 3 years only 1:339!)''

Killer finds, keep it up, some of us don't even have that kind of history to hunt.

Trying to keep it up but we had a very low Sept. result, & now our Oct looks like it may turn out better than usual.

That field looks like it was good to you except for the silver congrats on the nice finds

Still a lot of left. Love the brownish patina on some coins. Did these come from wet parts of the field or is it just iron?

Yes, the wet part where it picks up the natural iron's.

That flint is beautiful! Also love that key handle.

Congrats once again on the day's totals, I'm also liking the toning that are on a few of them.
Crazy ratio count for this site, wonder why there isn't more silvers lost?

Hard to answer, as we know the Military visited this large settlement which not only had links to the river network but a metal working area as well.

Yeap, me too, its a barbarous imitation - Rev; Soldier spearing a fallen horseman.

Very interesting finds as usual. I am curious to know if you have any laws or reporting rules regarding the Neolithic flint items you find, and how many pieces you have been able to find to date?
Thank you.

No Laws on reporting flints (singles). Not sure about a hoard of them though, ie. a bunch of hand-axes etc...
I have not counted but I probably have about 50-70.

Sorry no silver turned up, but you definitely made up for it in all the other categories. Love the detail on some of those Romans.

great finds ! nothing like digging thousand year old artifacts.... keep on Digging!
