Spent some hours finding the place, but we got there easier after we turned the Sat Nav off :tongue3:

Spent about 8 hours on two different fields. Perfectly flat & sandy as a beach. Nice change from the solid clay in my area.

Picture 1 all the Lead - my fav sign of a good field.

I seemed to have a great buckle day with several nice Medieval examples.
Still ringing early Crotal Bell
1818 Sixpence
3 poor hammered (1 OK reverse, Robert of Canterbury - Henry III, found on the way back to the car)

A good day out with my mate

Yea Mike you don't find those too often, and this one is a nice one....I though it was a stopcock...

Nice stuff Cru, they seem to be in a better condition too. I was wondering what the copper plate with the two holes
and face was (2nd photo, upper right). Awaiting Shaun's description also. What did you think of the area? (compared
to yours)... A lot of silver also!

cru, just watching you detect hurts my back! don't forget i have a few years on you(age wise) :D
after plastering walls and ceilings all week the last thing i want to do is constantly bend my poor old back! i wouldn't last an hour :-\
i'm afraid knees is my only option
there's nothing wrong with the lobo as most of my finds came out of that iron infested field, which i was quite pleased with

i will get a hammered..........one day!

I guess he (Cru) learnt a bit from me, don't spend much time on your knees because you never have enought time to search what you
want to do. don't forget i have a few years on you(age wise) HUH? You got to be kidding me.... You got to respect
us old guys!

Shaun, the Lobo. The Lobo is a great and sensitive detector, but it takes really a long time to recognize the good signals. So just have
patience and dig everything. Most importand is to know what is iron and what is not iron, but of course you know that. Someday if you
visit Holland (and especially the red light district) I will show you some of the finds I made with it.... You WILL get many hammereds for
sure...

Well spotted. Its the first one I have found. Its an official medieval scale weight pan for weighing gold coins.

Shaun has posted his already.

The area is 10 times richer than here, near a large Abbey. It has all period in one area: Bronze Age, Celtic, Saxon, Viking, Medieval, Modern. The soil is very sandy & coppers come out in good condition. Down side is the soil is so light that the machines blend the hammered into pieces, & the flint helps break items as well.

Great, I though so. I have never seen such an early one though, and marked with the head that's a good find, or
have you found them previously? I know of those places, we have a few that we search in and find all of those artifacts from each era.
The light soil is however not so nice, I have had that sort of problems sometimes near rivers also. Nice finds. Shaun too, it shows that
he can find ANYTHING if it comes under his coil...

No never had one before, not even seen them in books.

We are planning another visit but next time we will join the Pro during the week for exchange for scrap Lead. Should be a better trip, as he doesn't waste his time on the land we just covered. I was happy to take his left overs, but I would prefer his better spots. Although he doesn't share his great sites as its his wages he would be sharing.
