Fill Dirt

Mezrein,
It has been my observations that a well established park will not do fills. Google up the park history or check the local history of the park. If the trees are very wide (old) the ground around them should also be old. I remember, as a pre-teen, the local park, Kosciusko park in Milwaukee had a zoo. Those areas have been filled in (new tress too). Also, the swings are no longer where they used to be. Filled in. New trees again. But most of the park is old. Older trees. Ball parks are a different deal. The newer the diamonds, the newer the chance of fill. If you're shooting for coins (clad) that doesn't necessarily mean bad. Old coins, bad. Hope I helped.... a little. TTC

Where is Hillboro? My maps don't see such a place. If you live in snow country, check the playground areas where they plow and pile the snow. Kids play rougher in snow and ALOT of money is lost on the playgrounds when it is covered with snow. TTC

Hillsboro Oregon, we dont get snow too often. :)

Whenever you see fill dirt being brough in somewhere, it might be a good idea to ask where the fill dirt is coming from. Somewhere out there top soil is being removed which just might prove to be a darn good place to hunt.

You are right on with that one Bigscoop! I have posted, a couple years ago, of a lot in St. Francis, WI where the topsoil was removed. An EPA thing. I found about 18 wheats, 4 silver dimes and a silver quarter, if I remember right. Only one clad! I will always look for that topsoil removal now. TTC

Look for dry moat around the bases of older trees, they often would not "pile" fill dirt up around the bases of trees. Look for pushed up dirt and roots around bases of old trees, this would be normal. Also, tons of rusted cans and colored glass is a dead give-away. At a favorite park that I frequent a lot, I find brass based compacts and such, I know for a fact that the low spots were filled in with dirt from the local dump years ago..............NGE
