Finally I can say I got my first gold ring of the year. I have been watching a lot of Miami beach videos lately since I am going there next week for a few days. I especially have been watching a lot of videos with water detecting using the Garrett AT Pro. I see people in Miami having good results in the water the the AT Pro. I have had mine in the closest for more than a year and been using my two Excal's. I have the Excal 1000 with a 10x12 SEF coil and the Excal II with a stock 10 inch coil. Here is my question concerning the coils. Yesterday I worked the same beach for four hours using my Excal with the 10 inch coil. I hunt the the P/P mode with all the correct settings. Today I take my AT Pro and go over the same areas and find a 18K ring in 10 minutes.

Would you say that the stock coil of the AT Pro 8.5x 11 is better than the stock 10 inch coil on my Excal? I guess it could have just been pure luck that i found it with the AT Pro but I would like to know your thoughts on the two coils.

Nope, I think you just missed it with the Excal. A lot of times people grid and drag the scoop, but don't actually sweep the scoop lines!

I hunted FL with my AT Pro before getting a CZ-21.

My best find salt water find ever was with the AT Pro.

I think the Excal and AT Pro are both DD coils so I don't think it's a coil difference.

Rarely do i hunt in PP in the dry sand. There .... you are looking for recent drops well within the reach of the Xcal. That ring if you went over it in disc wouldnt have been missed. The AT Pro does its best work on the dry sand and will pick up some smaller targets than the Xcal....... but that one...... you just didnt go over. The problem with PP on the dry sand is near targets can sound weak because of size and modulation. In disc........ targets arent modulated that much........ meaning even a deep or weak signal will sound louder and alert you to stop. Unless there is something wrong with your Xcal..........you just missed that one.

I found that ring in the wet sand at the edge of the water. I have found that a few adjustments and tweaks on the AT Pro and it works great at the beach. Having said that I still use my two Excals.
