It's been awhile since we had a day as good as this. This field has in the past given us every period of British history, which in itself is rare.

We did 4 hours 15 minutes, some of it in the rain, thankfully this field is quite sandy so we were spared the sticky boots.

Buttons - Livery, early Navy, 17th C, 18th C pewter, Tudor, etc..
1 scrappy
Medieval Lead Weight (large)
1 good Buckle - late Medieval
Broken gun part - I forget where these go, any takers? (picture numbered 6 top right)
Tudor Book Clasp
Tudor Clothes Fastener (broken)
Medieval Sword Belt Hook (type I need):icon_thumright:
2 Leather Mounts
Lead Roman Ring (our 3rd ever in close succession):icon_scratch:
Celtic/Roman Fibula (Brooch)
Saxon Pinhead:icon_thumright:
Medieval Pinhead
1793 Halfpenny Token
3 Jettons
17th C Token
Rose & Royal Farthings
SILVER 18th C Clog Clasp:thumbsup:
Hammered Charles I Scottish Twenty Pence8-)
Saxon Sceat circa 700AD:headbang:

After yesterdays 2 - 0 silver count, I was back on top with all the silver today.:laughing7:

The Saxon pin head is cool. I've seen a couple over the time dug by you now! Hammered again but the sceat kills it! Great find!

This is a Saxon Site, & we have had 4 or more pinheads just from this field.

By golly Old Chap, you've cleaned up! A great day indeed! Have many more, HH!

Nice to have a saxon site! I was on the stirrup mount field today....all i got was the smallest medieval buckle in my collection.... Stirrup mount still in the museum. Hope to get it back at the end of the year.

Your silver finds were exceptional this time out!

Because its something I could possibly find the navy button is really nice and the condor token are right up my alley , good post!

excellent finds as always

An amazing assortment of finds Cru - outstanding effort!!

Congrats on the saxon.
The 20 pence coin doesn't sound like it would be a common one at all...that's more or less a question, as I don't know.

Looks like you covered it all, nice hunt

WTG Cru!! Killer day man. Love the many many early finds.

HH

Dan

That's a hole lot of digging there Cru. looks like it was worth the effort though. Congrats

Good lord!, are your arms tired?; that's a lot of finds.

Crusader - That's a lot of digging. You sure got your share of exercise on that hunt. Congrats - especially on sceat.

Man I love those sceats, any ID on it yet? Superb digs yet again! I was wondering about the Roman lead ring? I haven't heard of them so am curious; were lead finger rings popular with Romans for some reason? I can't imagine that they'd be too terribly durable.

Nice Finds Cru. The Hogge

Quite a haul of goodies, congrats!

ID on Sceat:
Series D (Type 2c), one of the main types of Continental sceat from the early 8th century (c.700-715). This type is very common as a find (180 recorded on EMC), indicating that it was imported in enormous quantities.

Whats funny is without checking I'm pretty sure this is my first of this type. Yet nearly every other one I have found have been rare or very rare. Still it takes nothing away from this little gem.

Roman Lead Ring:
I had no idea until a couple of weeks ago that the Roman's made Lead rings. I knew I had a positive ID as the first one I got is identical to the silver versions I have found. The PAS had only about 4 possible recordings & none were very convincing. So I think these have been somewhat over looked. I'm still not sure if there is not another explaination like a test piece. However, it seems unlike when they were using the lost wax method or were they??

My back hurts looking at all that. Does anyone know what kind of cross is on the piece of hammered resting on the nickle in the bottom photo?
