We spent the first hour on a cover crop (for sheep), it was a little too high & there were very little signs about. I had a hunch that the next field that we had tried previous years (with no success) was worth another go. I picked a spot near to the Villiage edge & started gridding, on my 3rd run up popped the lovely Groat.:headbang: We gridded that area for 3 hours covering about 1.5 acres with the following result:
(days total = 4 hours)

Dad had a nice Medieval Buckle plate with Dragon biting its tail (hard to picture, as its bent)
Broken Medieval Horse Harness Pendant
Livery Button
19th C Northampton Yeomanry Button8-)
Henry VII Groat - 1489-93 (I hardly ever find Groats, this is my first Henry VII)
My first ever Viking Cheek Piece (from a horse bridal) - Very Rare! See similar:
Record ID: SF-41B986 - EARLY MEDIEVAL bridle fitting - Database
Dug it at 11" in choppy stick clay, glad to see a good deep find instead of junk, as it was pretty tiring.

Couple of nice looking buttons there Cru! The groat and the Viking piece are awesome. Good to see you landed on another good site

What are the rectangle pieces in the 3rd picture?

Dang, what a nice Groat! This new spot looks like it has gobs of potential, hope you find some pre-Norman silver in there.

I also want to know what those rectangles are. Old movable-type spacers?

I just cant imagine so many possible wonderful finds in one area, always love to see what you have found

Love the Groat! Gz!

What a beautiful hammered! Must be cool to see such a biggie in the dirt! Congrats on your Viking find! :occasion14:

I can only imagine what your collection must look like. :notworthy:

You got got it, they are print blocks, all spaces, other than Dads '6'.

Sadly, its not another site, just a random selection of finds. The Viking Cheek piece came from a horse that can travel how many miles a day? The Groat came from an area with no other positive signs. They are freaks, but very welcome.

Well my tree coin and cob are freaks as well so I guess we take em until we find another killer site. Love those freaks like they were your own lol

A Groat AND Viking??!! Now that's a great day! Congrats, Cru!

The Viking piece is special, they are all so different in design, you may never see a match.
