Finally Broke Into the 1800's......and with a BANG!

So I finally did it! I broke into the 1800's and in a big way! With this 1853-o Seated Half Dime!! I've been knocking on doors and I finally got to hunt a couple of the oldest yards in town, near Lovers Point here in Pacific Grove. I didn't get a single coin all day....I got a zinc sound on my EX2 and I decided to dig it and out she pops!!! I'll take her as my only coin anyday....I'm leaving her dirty because I think she looks good that way!! Thanks for looking and HH - Rob

That is a BEAUTIFUL coin!

I'd say that the reason most folks aren't digging half dimes is because of the zinc reading. The Iron Brigade has seen FOUR half dimes come up in the past three months--and they've all been zinc penny readings. The shallowest of them was right underneath a thick layer of leaves.

Well done!!

Sweet coin! What a way to break into the 1800's!
If you could find that tiny coin, then old dimes and quarters should be a breeze!
Congrats on the GREAT find!

Thanks for all the replies, I guess she stayed in such good shape because the soil was more sandy than your regular "dirt". I'll post some mores finds as soon as I can...thanks again....and yes Pacific Grove is near Carmel-Monterey, I posted my backyard in the picture gallery on Tnet.....thanks again and HH - Rob
