I was hunting around an old house and found the 2 wheat pennies first, went about 10 more feet and got a great reading, starting to dig the plug and out pops the merc. I couldnt believe it after about 20 outings and I finally had my first silver. Scanned the hole again with my pinpointer and started popping out coins left and right. 2 Walking Liberties 1 Barber 1 Mercury 3 Indian Head Cents and 2 Wheat Pennies. All the coins except the 2 Wheat Pennies out of the same hole. What is the best way to clean the pennies?

Wow! Fantastic for a first silver(s) find!!

Lucky dawg you. Might want to check for key dates on those indian heads, right?

Very nice finds! That's a good day for anyone. Congratulations!

Nice! Way to go your hooked now.

Nice coins and all at once too. Congrats

One heck of a spill! Congrats :headbang:

congrats, great finds

That is one heck of a coin spill!

Nice spill! for cleaning the pennies, a dry toothbrush usually works best for me. some people will recommend olive oil, but i prefer not to use this.

Awesome pocket spill...Congrats to ya...

Now that is a pocket spill to be proud of!!!

Awesome Hunt!

what kind of machine do you have?

Thanks for sharing! Many professionals say "Never clean coins". If they are low value items there is no harm, but if the coins are rare (and we all hope that every find is rare) a lot of value could be lost by cleaning or making an old coin look unnaturally shinny.
Search TNet for "cleaning coins" to get ideas.

Look through published coin price lists and you will find that some coins have "Clnd" or "Cleaned" in the description to explain the lower price.

What a fantastic way to get your first silver, a coin spill! I've still never found a Walker after more than twenty years detecting. Its funny, but the type of signal that gave you the "great reading" is often bypassed by other detectorists. A strong signal often leads to a beer can or other trash. You were very wise to dig that signal, and were well rewarded--congrats.

Thanks terpfan I pretty much dig anything since I am fairly new to metal detecting and have only used my AT Pro a handfull of times.

Wow, you stroked a lot of things off the list in that one hole! Back in my first metal detecting season I too found a large silver spill, two bucks in silver in one hole. What a thrill eh?!

Enjoy it, those huge silver spills don't happen very often. Congrats!!
