Today must be my lucky day. I had an odd hunch to go to a site that has given very little in the past, and I followed through with the hunch! I called up my friend and we decided to go out and try the field near a supposed 1800s cabin site. We hunted for an hour or so and found several old relics before unearthing this beauty. It is an 1802 large cent, DRAPED BUST! Thomas Jefferson was only in his first term of his presidency! I love it and it is currently my oldest US coin, second to my 1829 dime<banner>. It is holed, which is really cool! I am going back as soon as I can! Thanks for looking guys, this is what it is all about!! Whoohoo 210 years old!

Congrats on a great find now hit the area hard as there are bound to be better ones near......

Congrats, awesome libery cap find!!

That's Awesome! Love The Excitement For The History Of Your Find! Way To Go! :icon_thumleft:

Congrats on your oldest coin find, Mine was a 1828 Quarter, That I gave to my brother, As an incentive to look harder and not give up.....I'm proud to say that it worked, He went on to find Six yes (6) Indian war cannon balls along the Banks of the Keowee River in Anderson County S.C........Congrats again...........................HH

That makes two of yall that says the coin is a liberty cap. Why do you not think it is an 1802 draped bust? I want to see liberty cap but I cant do it!

Very cool find--nicely done!

All the best,

Lanny

Great find! There is a lot of history around Mebane.

Exellent, just got one myself.:icon_thumleft:IMG_0390.webp

It's not a liberty cap unless it's Thicker than a normal large cent. I think some are confusing the ribbon in Liberty's hair with a cap. Great find!

Congratulations Brad. That is an excellent find.

NICE!! Thanks for sharing!

HH John

Also, Liberty Cap dates are (1793 - 1796). Draped Bust dates are (1796 - 1807) Great find!!

Nice condition, I found my first large cent yesterday in a local park, your's is in better condition, I can't make out the date on mine.
