Finding this was a blast

Found yesterday near Richmond Va. assumed it was just another padlock and put it in my pouch. Looked today and saw the extra writing…..”ordnance department USA”. This department was in existence from 1812-1950 when it was renamed ordnance corps. It’s an ilco lock, which started in 1916. This puts this lock somewhere between ww1 and ww2. Fun fact, the ordnance corps is based out of fort Lee in Richmond. This spot is not the way to any installations, directly, and as I have found collar tags from the same time period at the site, I’m assuming a soldier decided the lock would be better used on the farm than by the govt.
