Finds from "seal beach" (colonial finds)

Well it's been wayyy too long, since I got out detecting last... decided to go out at the last minute for about 2 hours and glad I did... I dug out 5 bale seals within 5 minutes of each other, can see the fleur de lys on some of them along with some numbers, hard to get some good pics off the lead... This was the most seals I've dug in one day....also managed a 1749 Geo II that was in great shape for coming off the beach... The nice find today was this silver medallion marked sterling on it... looks almost like a figure on it with long hair? anyone have any ideas or seen this one before? other finds include buttons, a small broken bell and musketballs....

thanks for looking

Bale seals were single disc seals, rather than two disc seals, and were also used to identify textiles, as well as parcels and bales of trade goods. The obverse would typically display a city's arms, and the reverse would record data such as the length or width of fabric or the weight of a parcel.

You'll be killing me on seals soon with days like that! ..and what's with all the 1749 Georgies? :tongue3:

Sterling silver is modern, nothing too interesting.

It's cool to see a KG beach find!

As IP says, the silver is Victorian Era or newer.

Sterling silver is modern

Absolutely right. I would say more Art Nouveauish than Art Nouveau. But still very cool.

Agreed, 1890-1920 mostly likely 1900-1910 period.

Awesome!! That's what I get for slacking with the phone, missing out on that! That KG looks better than the ones I find in the ground for sure.
