First pic is V-Ball court. Only thing i found there was the huge a$# spike.

2nd pic should be of the tot lot area and trash finds along with good finds. The keychain is a pair of nail clippers with a deco brass flip handle. Says Hong Kong on the bottom of the design.

And last pic is of the penny. Its a 2009 but when did they redo the back of the 2009 pennies? I have never seen one before ever with this back.

The mint made 4 different reverses for the penny in 2009 to commemerate the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth. In 1909 Lincoln first appeared on the penny in commemoration of his centennial.

Cool penny, I've never seen one before lol

but I haven't seen that particular back yet myself. plenty of the other ones. maybe its luck, or a distribution thing?

I believe that the large spike looks to me like a railroad spike for the rails on ties. I grew up near a railroad and they were everywhere.

That is without a doubt, a bent RR spike

I have never recovered a bent one. Have been hearing talk that the steel used to make them was high grade. And that people were buying them to use for making knife blades. Maybe they are making them from low grade steel now?

I can't speak on the quality of steel used but I can tell you that I've been in close proximity of RR tracks my whole life and it's very common to see bent spikes laying around. They can easily get bent when putting them in or replacing them. I'm too tired to take a pic but I dug a bent one out of a park just last year. Nothing strange there.

Also, you can bend them with the help of a camp fire...

And thanks for turning me on to RR spike knives, CoinandRelicMan. I never realized that people were doing that but it makes total sense.

I just watched a couple nice Youtube vids of the whole process.

Good hunt Mighty Mouse.

The RR spike is not a huge surprise. Even though the RR isn't just around the corner, it still isn't very far away. Definitely wouldn't be expecting to find one in the V-ball court though.

Good luck and HH

Yeah the ones i have recovered have been from peoples yards. They probably leave the bent ones and take home the straight ones.
