Left work early and hit my uncles house again this time focused on the front yard mainly. Found my first Barber dime and two mercs in front of a flower bed. The 1903 Barber is in rough shape but hey I got one! The '36 merc was in great shape I just rinsed and wrapped it up as I found it. I found a few wheats, a wing from a toy Army plane, and a shot gun shot with what I think is a date of 1901 and the word "Leader" on it before moving to the side of the house and pulling a big silver medallion. It's a shame the back of the house has a stone deck covering most of the back yard. There is no telling what is under there.

I have to admit though the more I find the harder it is to focus on anything else. I can't even drive around town anymore without looking at buildings and wondering how old they are and where I would most likely find something if I was detecting there. Oh well I guess there are worse vices to have in life.

Thanks for lookin... and happy hunting

Congrats on the Barber! That's a nice group of finds there...

Thanks WT. Found this info on the shotgun shell.

Winchester sold shotgun cartridges under brand names Ranger (low brass) and Leader (high brass). These retail shotshell brands were discontinued in the 1940s (?).

You definitely need to ask some homeowners if you can hunt their yards. The oldest home sites in my town would be around the 1920's. There is no telling what could be found in a town as old as yours. Maybe if you start with homes that are for sale and the owner still in the house. What do they have to lose?
