First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

On Sunday I found my first Barber, a coin I put on my wish list for 2009 and a coin I've wanted to find since I started MDing. It was found in a spot that no one would look at and get excited about. Just one of many flat areas within 1/4 mile of a river.

I'd dug six or seven pieces of junk when I got a great high tone on my Ace 250. I didn't think too much about it until I pinpointed it and it seemed small enough to be a coin. I flipped out the dirt clod and saw a small silver disc, and when I picked it up and saw a wreath around "One Dime" I knew I had my first Barber.

I thinks the detail is pretty fine. I'd love to have your opinion on the condition of this coin.

Nice! That's one you'll remember for a long time! I remember the thrill of finding my 1st barber.

Re: First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

Nice find. Thats one on my wish list as well. I'm giving it a VF35. I can see almost a full liberty.
EF40 is full liberty.

Re: First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

At Least a VF a $100.00 Coin WTG

Re: First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

This coin has the details of a VF-20, but due to even the light tarnish caused by the ground I would price it according to the grade F-12.
I wouldn't sell for less than $75, probably closer to $90. (I actually wouldn't sell it at all) Congrats on your First Barber! May it be one of many. :)

Very nice

Re: First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

Thanks to all for sharing opinions about this coin. I don't know anything about grading coins, but this one is special because its pretty much what I had in mind what I wanted to find when I started MDing.

Re: First Barber...First 1800's Coin...Goal for 2009

I would give this coin a definite Fine and probably more depending on the "sharpness" on the LIBERTY. The reverse is, ignoring the tarnish, is a Fine+. But you do have relate to the tarnish. I would basically agree with Lucky.
You have a really nice coin there - good thing you didn't scratch it. Value - I don't know.
Congratulations! Great Find!
