Got out today for a few hours worth of hunting with Matt (matthewh05). Met him here on TNet - we are the only 2 people from Greenville, NC that either of us know of on here. We planned on hunting a nice site we plan to visit soon but work called and we made it out to an old farmhouse instead. Matt has pictures of it posted here: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,113103.0.html We were digging lots of trash but oddly enough no clad which has never happened to me before, obviously no one had been out there in awhile. After we were about to pack it up to check the house across the street I was in the process of digging one more target that was reading as a copper penny but bouncing into the quarter range of my Whites II. I was wishfully thinking large cent but out popped this button instead. I beleive it to be a WWI or WWII button (probably WWI from what I have read - but if anyone knows for sure please let me know). Anyways it was a nice surprise and the first button I have ever dug. Hopefully next time we will both come away with a lot more but it was a good start and a nice change to hunt with someone besides myself. The picture of the button is below - if anyone can ID it for sure please let me know, thanks!

Still unsure if it is civil war - all the backmarks on that site are slightly different than this one (quoted from the site below). Mine just says Horstmann Phila. it doesn't have the initials W.H. before or the Co. or Bros or any of that. It is not on the list but I think it is closest to the last one except Philadelphia is abbreviated. Either way according to the list the latest it could be is 1935 so that is why I am guessing WWI. Plus I have never seen a CW button with this seal on it, another reason why I think it is later. If anyone out there knows for sure I would appreciate any info you have. Either way I am pleased, my first buttom of many I hope - with luck we both can add some more tomorrow.

W. H. HORSTMANN / PHILA. 1820-1850
W. H. HORSTMANN / NEW YORK 1820-1837
W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS 1843-1863
W. H. HORSTMANN & CO. / PHILA. 1864-1866
W. H. HORSTMANN & CO. / NEW YORK 1837-1847
HORSTMANN BROS & CO. / PHILA 1859-1863
HORSTMANN BROS & CO. / NEW YORK 1850-1852
HORSTMANN BROS & ALLIEN 1852-1877
HORSTMANN BROS & DRUCKER 1844-1850
HORSTMANN / PHILADELPHIA 1893-1935
