First complete shoe buckle!

Hi all, I've been detecting pretty hard core with a buddy for about 3 years now. We primarily try to locate and detect early colonial sites, as we live very close to many of the first settled areas in pennsylvania and Maryland.

Over this time I have found hundreds of various shoe buckle fragments and pieces, I have 3 or 4 complete frames but never a complete buckle till today. This was a site we tried to hit back in the summer but it was hight pasture with very little open areas. We did manage a brittish halfpenny and a 1804 half cent, and a few buttons back then.

Today was actually slim pickings, not sure what this site was but this buckle, another British halfpenny and a few buttons were found today.

Congrats on finding a very nice buckle. Complete buckles are tough to come by. Yours looks similar to xii in this chart. I have read that the double spike versions were in use after 1725. Nicely done!

A complete Colonial she buckle is certainly among the most coveted Colonial recoveries you can make. Congrats! Does it still swivel? When the pins are not iron they stand a much better chance of staying intact. Congrats!
