Hello Friends!
I hit a permission for an hour or so today (my sisters new place) and came up with my first cool find. Very first plug I dug, sitting in the bottom of the whole was a small pocket knife. Written on the side are the words "Duluth School Police 1986". I did a little research when I got home and it sounds like these were given out as school awards, often to crossing guards. This is the first thing they I have found that wasn't nails, glad, or junk iron. I was pretty pumped up. Searched awhile longer and found the usual nails and what not, but I did walk away with my first dug wheat penny, and a small metal hook. The hook still had a bit of a price tag on it, but I'll take treasure where I can get it.
Question for all you veteran diggers out there. Would you try to clean the little knife up, or would you leave it as is?
