I went back to the cellar hole where I found the stamp act button, and ended up finding my first copper since 2016! I guess the long slump is finally over. It appears to be a scarcer variety, with the bust facing right instead of left. Does anyone with more knowledge on state coppers know what variety it is? Hopefully there are many more coppers to come in 2019!

Also, anybody know what the crude ring that I found may be?

Nice old copper find. Congrats

Great Find!
Looks like the Connecticut 1786 Copper, Large Head, Facing Right.
Reverse looks like the illustration in my 2015 Red Book.
A valuable coin!

We get loads of what we call 'Ring Things'. Lots of uses over hundreds of years, most of the one's we find are late medieval, but just goes to show they kept on using them for something?
Horse Harness Rings
Suspension Loops on people
Those are the 2 most popular theories, one book published some types as Roman Military related. To be honest, they are really not that sure, even though they are a very common find over here.

Rings could also be the backing material for colonial textile buttons but yours looks different then the ones I find

Nice job on the old copper find! :occasion14:
