Hello all.
Been lurking here forever, mainly in the J.Swift area.
Wanted a detector for while now. After reading a post about the cheap-o detectors from Harbor Freight not being
too bad, I bought one.
Rained for two weeks and I couldn't try it out, except to practice dialing it in with a nail, a quarter, a nickel and a penny.
Last Friday eve, the rain slowed. Couldn't wait any longer, off to the backyard I went.
Didn't expect much, our house was built @1960. Nothing there before it.
After 5 minutes (!) I got a strong silver signal.
Dug this! Now I'm ruined.

With fogged glasses! LOL

I know there's not much depth on that detector though, I'm sure that dollar wasn't deep at all. HH

You're an animal Creekcrawler!

If this is Harbor Freight, I'd like to see you with a really decent modern machine, but perhaps that would break the Mojo! Show us that thing cleaned up, please.

Best wishes and Congrats!

Awesome dig! Most people will never find one.

My uncle found his first and only silver dollar without his metal detector. (He swung a Whites 6000D) Anyhow, he went out to feed the pigs and there on the ground, rooted up, was a Morgan staring up at him from the pig poo!

Might as well go buy a Garret its over your addicted. Took me 2 years ti find a Morgan and none since. Get a display case to put those silvers in Well Done

Welcome to tnet also Tommy

Yeah ! You are definitely ruined for your career , most will never find one ! I was lucky to grab the Peace dollar variety of these about eight years ago .

Way to go! Same thing happened to me,.1st hunt, first detector, Harbour freight 9 function, front yard, 1921 Morgan. I about craped my pants. I knew I was hooked for life, that was 7 years ago. A year later I got an ace 350 and now two years into my ATpro. I've since found 3 Ike's but no more Morgan's. Plenty of silver though. Welcome to the path.

All I can say is, darn that’s a nice find for the first time out.

Holy moly! And I thought I lucked out finding a Roise the first time I used my Ace250....

Congratulations, thats an outstanding find!

all i want to know is what kind of good luck charm you have ? cuz with that kind of luck. sell that metal detector sell the coin and buy a better metal detector and you'll surely find gold the next time. but dont forget to tell me what your good luck charm is ?

Jesus:laughing7: I thought I did well because my first silver coin was a barber dime about a week or so after getting my first detector many years ago. This metal detecting hobby just sucked you in hook line and sinker. :laughing7: I’m still looking for my first silver dollar. Congrats and like they always say “location, location, Location. :occasion14:

Wow, no way!! What a start to your detecting career. You've got a coin under your belt many veterans don't. Nicely done!!

Somebody has a angle sitting on their shoulder. Congrats on a great first silver. Can't wait to see your next find.

Yeap, your buggered now!! lol

Congrats

Buggered is like stuffed! Usually meant in a slightly derogatory manner. However, I think coming from Crusader he means buggered in a good way! Congratulations

Well im going to Harbor Freight today..

Wow. Thanks for all the replies fellas!

I'm a bit of a local historian. Lots of places I need to go, all within a few miles of me -
An abandoned area that was a dance hall built in the 1890's and burned in 1939. Already found the access roads in the woods.
An old stage coach inn built in 1830, burned in the 1940's. Owner also had a collection of Gypsy/Roma wagons too, I know where they were parked.
An old homestead from 1850's.
Also know where the local boy scout & girl scout camps/cabins were located.
And three old mill locations . . .

Just hoping to get out more before the ground freezes.
