I found what looks to be a small pottery item protruding from a bank along the ocean after a heavy rain storm. I cleaned it up but unfortunately I broke a portion of the rim. It still has some glaze and is almost 2" in width. Any ideas on what it could be? My guess in an ink well but it seems sort of small. Sorry about the poor Vessel-1.jpg Vessel-2.jpg quality pics. Can't wait for the snow to melt. getting restless....

"stoneware penny ink" Thanks for the identification. Any idea what era these were used? Also what type of top (if any) they might have had? All the best

Hey Caper,

They're Victorian era, and would have had a cork closure.
