First Flying Eagle Cent and a couple unknown relics

[vabuckhunter]

Does anyone know what the other 2 objects are? The round one appears to be a button but it has a cast line on the back and is very heavy like pewter maybe. the other has a nice wreath around the top.

[Erik in NJ]

It's an old cast button -- possibly pewter. 18th century. That Flying Eagle cent is in great shape....should clean up really well in warm hydrogen peroxide. Great finds!

Awesome flying eagle! I saw one pulled last year and it's been high on my list since! Nice job!

Thanks guys, what would be the best way to get the dirt off? I usually clean in a hot peroxide bath but I dug a fatty Indian the other day and cleaned with peroxide, it turned the coin a horrible red color.

[Erik in NJ]

I would use warm to the touch (not hot) but you could try water, baking soda, and a toothbrush first or let it soak overnight in room temp peroxide. Warm peroxide turns my IHs a nice chocolate brown, but you're right--fatties are a bit different alloy.

Can you post a close up pic of the pewter button?

[Argentium]

The Flying Eagle Cent is in very nice shape - I wouldn't mess with that honest patina at all -

[vabuckhunter]

The button still needs to be cleaned but the front has a nice flower design on it.

[vabuckhunter]

Argentium I would like to keep the patina just lose the dirt lol

VBH THE 3RD ITEM IN PIC 1-2 LOOKS LIKE A SLING ADJUSTER JUST GUESSING.

[Vino]

Hey Buck.
If it was my eagle all i would do is put it in mineral oil and then rub it with ur fingers.
It will look awesome. .
Do the same thing with that button. It will bring out more details.
That last piece looks like half of a buckle..

Vino would olive oil work?

[Vino]

Vino would olive oil work?

It does!! It just has a tendency to make the coin a little darker..
Just dont use any water..
