First flying eagle..pennies through the years

In hunting a new permission where people have gathered over time I thought I found my first IHP fatty as it felt a bit thicker than a traditional penny. I was confused, then thrilled when an eagle emerged with toothbrush cleaning! The coin wasn’t in great condition but the 1857 date was clear! It was interesting to learn that 1856 was the test year of a smaller penny and not many (2000?) minted. Then it was only minted in 1857 and 1858. The fatty IHP would have been 1859-1864...so that is still on my bucket list!
I was also lucky enough to find a liberty head..1849

...and a button or something...!

Thanks for sharing in the fun...I recently saw Kmatch7’s flyer and hadn’t really known about this coin...was jealous....and then the relic spirits gifted me with one! What will be next, I wonder! [emoji4]

That would be a mind blowing hunt for me. The flying eagle is incredible and I don’t think they have a LC in the whole state of Louisiana.

Really nice find. When I was a boy I had a small coin collection. The 1857 flying eagle was my crown jewel. I still haven't found one yet. As crusty and worn as it is yours is in decent condition. For the most part the ground eats the flying eagles for breakfast.

Very nice finds ! The flying eagle cent is one of my favorite all time coins. Yes its a little thicker than other pennies. The other one you found looks like a large cent. It is truly a fabulous hobby. Thanks for sharing !

Congrats on the flying eagle, I'm still looking for my first. That's a nice large cent too, most of the large cents here are pretty worn.
